3 Cool Ways to Bring Summer Inside // by Michele

  1. Fruit: On your counter or table, place a low bowl with your favorite fruit inside. My favorites to use this time of year are lemons, peaches, or apples! The pop of color is so bright and happy. Bonus Affect: Studies have actually proven that women eat more fruit if it is visible and accessible in the kitchen! Give us all of the antioxidants!

  2. Florals: Now that Mother’s Day and graduations have passed, our favorite flower shops are finally restocked. Shopping for flowers in season is so nice because you have a constant rotation of flowers all year. Here are some of my current favorites that I have in my house:

    • Pink Peonies // Trader Joe’s for $9.99

    • Blue Hydrangea’s // Trader Joe’s for $5.99

    • Arrangements // Lucy’s Market for under $60!

    • Any color Tulip // Whole Foods for $4.99

    • Bonus: Cut something from your own yard!! After cutting the stem at an angle, dip it in Alum to keep the blooms longer. You can also spray your vase with a tiny bit of bleach to keep bacteria at bay!

  3. Barware: Accenting your bar, dining room, or kitchen island with fun, new bar wear can be a cost efficient way to add some new interest, personality, and summer vibes into your space. Here are some of my favorites right now:

News from around the office…

At the start of June, we hired a summer assistant, Maggie! She will be helping out with errands, our office reorganization project, and any other odd jobs we have going on! She is exploring if interior design is something she would want to pursue after high school. If you see her around, say hi! She is excited to meet everyone!

Erin is loving the new office updates with a new huge desk to spread out at and a comfy chair to sit in! She is deep into wedding planning (only 6 months out!!) and is constantly surprised by how exciting and scary planning an event for 200 people is. If you have any wedding tips or marriage advice, send them her way!

Michele is enjoying the slower mornings without school and the rush that comes with getting everyone out the door. Summer is for meeting up with friends, starting new projects, and traveling a little bit with family. She’s looking forward to Rosemary Beach, Orlando for volleyball, and Charleston for the 4th!

It’s been pretty busy around here. We’ve been working hard to finish up some really unique spaces with some amazing clients turned friends. We are in the process of redoing our Resource Library and Inventory Closet and it is proving to be both fun and overwhelming. Huge thanks to Maggie for making it all happen! We are also slowly collecting new office furniture, and it is coming together nicely! We’d love to have you in for a visit soon, just please don’t ask for a coffee from our fancy espresso maker. We don’t know how to use it.

We are embarking on several new opportunities that we are jazzed about- most notable recently was being selected to be the spec designer for the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle showhouse at Lake Burton! Follow along with us as we make selections on this super fun project!

Trends: 2 We Love, 2 We Hate // by Erin

I live for home design accounts all over instagram. I’ve learned so many new ones while working with Michele. With seeing so many different ideas, you’re bound to love some and hate some. Here’s what we are loving lately:

  • Everything Scalloped: Michele agrees, we cannot get enough of scalloped details everywhere! Target had some baskets go viral with a scalloped edge- if you see them, grab them!!

  • Lamps in the Kitchen: This is something I’ve added recently, and holy cow, it is a mood booster. I love the ambiance at night or in the mornings when the house has already been put to bed. There is something so comforting about the warm glow from the kitchen!

    • Here’s some inspo from: Kavia Collective, Target, Collected Design Co., and West Elm

These are 2 trends I am hating right now:

  • Unexpected Red Theory: If you haven’t heard, this a new theory that every room needs a small pop of red to add some interest, especially if it doesn’t match anything in the room. I will say, I love an unexpected detail or item in a room. It’s really just these dark reds in an already curated room that are throwing me for a loop.

  • Amazon Frames: I can’t believe I’m saying this because almost every single frame in my house is from Target, Amazon, or dare I say, Ikea. I love the accessibility of being able to frame my own pictures or prints. However, since working for Michele, I have I seen so much value in having things professionally framed. There is such a DIFFERENCE! So, while I understand the cost difference and convenience, I am still totally over cheap frames.

Industry Articles We Are Still Thinking About:

Has 'Resale Value' Ruined Interior Design? by Meghan Shouse

“However, building or renovating a house for the sole purpose of selling it has put an emphasis on resale value for the average homeowner as well, and this has arguably resulted in the spread of perfectly inoffensive homes lacking character—and often made with poor quality materials—entering the mainstream interior design market.”

The Dated Bathroom Detail Designers Are Saving (and We’re Here for It) by Lydia Geisel

But after painting the walls a slightly darker shade of Farrow & Ball’s Inchyra Blue, she came around to it. “It makes the rest of the room feel intentional,” she says.
